Oikos House Church, Oceanside – May 18, 2025
God loves the church— and the many beautiful reflections of it, delighting in all who run after His heart. Big or small, inside or out, His presence rests on those who truly seek Him.
House Church is just one expression of Christ’s body, but to me, it’s a glimpse into the early church — a sanctuary in simplicity. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a treasure for those of us who have experienced its warmth and power.
Lately, we’ve begun our Sunday mornings by worshiping on the beach. It’s a way of reaching out to the community, and it’s where we’ve felt God sending us to put the stake in the ground for His Kingdom. This week, God encouraged us, “I’m anointing your eyes to see and discern from My perspective.”
As we walked toward the water, we noticed a homeless woman named Deidre standing at the entrance. We smiled and said, “Hi. Would you like to come down and worship Jesus with us?” She said, “Yes.” and followed us down the hill. It reminded me of those times in the Gospels when Jesus would say, “Follow Me,” and hearts would respond and immediately follow Him.
During Worship, Deidre lifted her hands, holding up a piece of bread. It felt incredibly prophetic. The Bread of Life—Our sustenance. Our ongoing source of life and strength! As we sang, the Holy Spirit gave us a spontaneous song about His provision.
After worship, we invited her to come back to the house for communion. We carried her belongings for her—bags, blankets, everything she owned—and placed them by the door.
Deidre entered the house with peace. She wandered over to the bookshelf, and someone told her, “Pick Any book you like—And it’s yours.” A While later, I looked over and saw what she had chosen : A small pink . — How sweet to our hearts! Someone noticed she was squinting and gave her their reading glasses to keep.
One of us sensed that she had lost someone close. “Yes,” she said, “my son.” Another sister in Christ, who had also lost a child, gently prayed for her, sharing her own story and releasing comfort and hope.
Then we called out the gold in her, speaking life and destiny over her. We commissioned her to share Jesus with her community, in places only she could reach.
Each person brought a piece of the Father’s love, offering it freely in their own way. It’s a good reminder that the Church isn’t a place for spectators—it’s a house of worship, a place to bring what you’ve received from the overflow of your week with Jesus and pour it out on the body.
Before Deidre Left, someone so kindly said, “You’re a part of God’s family now and that means you’re a part of ours! You are welcome in my house anytime.” We sent her off with food, a little money for the road, and a heart touched by the father’s love.
And we were filled with joy! God is stretching our hearts, expanding our capacity, and widening our reach. It’s not flashy. It’s not polished. But it’s real. It’s raw. It’s beautiful.
What a Sunday. What a Savior!

John 6:35– Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
1 Corinthians 10:16–17– Is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.
