A word from the Lord to encourage mothers who are brokenhearted over their children.
Mothers don’t cry—
God is bringing your children from dead to life—and back to you!
This morning, as I was reading the Word, Jesus drew me into the story. It was as if I were standing right there, watching it unfold with my own eyes.
Picture this:
A narrow footpath weaves through olive groves and gentle hills, leading to the outskirts of a small village named Nain—a name that means pleasant, beautiful, green pastures.
At the village gate, two processions collide.
There is a mother and a father leading different crowds and they come upon each other.
One is led by a grieving mother—a widow. Her only son has died. She walks at the front of a funeral procession, leading a crowd out of the city— out of the green pastures—toward despair, sorrow, and death.
Jesus, our joyful father, is walking with His disciples and a large crowd, bringing with Him the presence of life, resurrection, and hope. He is leading them through the gates of Nain—into the pleasant, beautiful, green pastures.
Death and Life meet face to face at the crossroads.
Jesus sees the brokenhearted mother. His heart is moved with deep compassion. He says to her, “Do not weep.”
He walks up to the coffin, touches it and commands the dead child to get up!
The dead boy rises to life and begins to talk— we’re not told what he says—maybe it was about the wonders of heaven, a revelation from God, or his testimony of a life bound in death. But one thing is sure he was dead and Jesus resurrected him.
A holy fear of the Lord sweeps over the crowd, and everyone praised the Lord!
In one moment—everything changed. Sorrow met compassion. Death met resurrection. And a mother’s loss was turned into joy. Jesus is still the Gate, the only way from despair into life. And He is still meeting the brokenhearted with power, mercy, and hope.
In John 10:19, Jesus declares:
“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.

Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country. —Luke 7:11-16
This is what the Lord says:
“A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”
This is what the Lord says:
“Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded,” declares the Lord. “They will return from the land of the enemy. So there is hope for your descendants,” declares the Lord. “Your children will return to their own land. —Jeremiah 31:15–17
