Jesus often speaks to me through nature, and over the past month, He has been highlighting the story of Nebuchadnezzar.
While on a prayer walk, I noticed a stump — a tree that had been cut down— immediately Nebuchadnezzar came to mind.
On a second prayer walk, a week later, in that same place, I saw that all the trees had been cut down and scattered everywhere, in preparation for a soccer field.
I heard in my spirit, “The Nebuchadnezzars are falling!”
God is leveling the playing field. The humble and small Davids will now arise in the fields where the giants once stood.
These Davids will not need slingshot nor stone — they will stand still and watch the mighty hand of God move!
– 2 Chronicles 20:17
Later on, I was given a vision of a great flood. The waters were muddy, and giant trees were floating down the river. Jesus was standing on the banks, holding an axe. Some tree tops were removed, leaving only a stump for restoration. Others were pulled out by the floodwaters — roots and all!
I heard, “Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” – Matthew 3:10
Again, I remembered Nebuchadnezzar — a powerful ruler marked by pride, impulsiveness, and cruelty.
To note, he was:
Powerful and Ambitious
He defeated many nations and expanded Babylon into one of the greatest empires of the ancient world (Daniel 1:1-2, 2 Kings 24:1-2).
Prideful and Arrogant
He was extremely proud of his accomplishments, often attributing his success to his own power rather than acknowledging God (Daniel 4:30 — “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power…”).
Humbled and Judged by God
He was cut down by divine judgment (Daniel 4:32-33), but after humbling himself, he was restored and publicly praised the sovereignty of the “King of Heaven” (Daniel 4:34-37).
Season of Divine Reset
God is moving in power — in the heavens, and on earth. Plowing the field. Preparing His bride. The proud are being humbled. The stumps are being exposed. And the Davids — the humble ones, the hidden ones — are being positioned for what’s next.
This is a time to posture our hearts low before the Lord.
So if you find yourself standing in a field of stumps, don’t be discouraged or afraid—and do not rejoice in another’s fall!
Let the old be cut away. Let the flood do its cleansing work. And let the axe fall wherever it must — because the One who holds it is faithful to lead, correct, refine and restore His people.
Key Scriptures
Luke 2:8 – Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God… Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.
Daniel 4:14-15, 26-27 – “He proclaimed aloud and said thus: ‘Chop down the tree and lop off its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit…But leave the stump of its roots in the earth…your kingdom shall be confirmed for you from the time that you know that Heaven rules.”
Matthew 7:24-27 – “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock…And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock…But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand… and great was the fall of it.”
Isaiah 29:13-16 – “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me…Ah, you who hide deep from the LORD your counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, ‘Who sees us?… (to be sure, God sees)
For the Davids: 2 Chronicles 20:17– “You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD…”
