Life-changing benefits of meditation:

Experience God

Experiencing God is not an emotional boost. It is the movement of God in ones heart and soul.
God searches us out and ignites passion and desire in our hearts for Him. As we press in to know Him better, we will experience God in deeper ways. Christian meditation helps you to pause, and see what God is doing in and around you. It places you in a position to listen to His guiding voice. Christian meditation is about seeking intimacy with God. Intimacy literaly means “in-to-me-see.” When you draw close to the Father, you can see what He is doing and join Him in His work. – John 5:19. As you seek His face with intentionality, He will come close to you with fervent love. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:8

Awaken Your Spirit

To awaken your spirit is to increase your awareness and discernment.
An awakened Spirit lives life with new freedom. The space around you becomes lighter and brighter as you realize that the presence of God is with you and His spirit is speaking to you. When the eyes of your heart become enlightened you become more aware of God’s purpose, presence and power. Ephesians 1:18 – “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope in which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people and His incomparably great power for us who believe.”

Find Rest for Your Soul

The soul was made to rest in God the way a tree entwines in soil. When we make the time to be with God, He drenches our soul in the waters of His love, bringing encouragement and healing. God’s rest is a loving relief for our worried hearts and stressed lives. Seeking such a rest requires intentionally, laying aside our busy lives, and seeking solitude with the father.

Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Additional benefits of Christian meditation include:

  • A greater sensitivity to Holy Spirit.
  • Creates an atmosphere of peace.
  • Reduces worry, and gives relief from stress and anxiety.
  • A transformed mind.
  • Increased faith.
  • An expectancy of God’s goodness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Christian meditation?

Meditation is a time to prayerfully ponder, reflect on, muse, and ‘chew’ the words of Scripture, and the wonders of God. Christian meditation re-focuses us from ourselves and from the world so that we reflect on God’s Word, His nature, His abilities, and His works. When you meditate on Jesus you experience God, awaken your spirit and find rest for your soul.

Is meditation biblical?

Christian meditation is rooted in the Bible. In fact, the Bible commands us to meditate. In Joshua 1:8, God instructs us to meditate on His word day and night. Psalm 77:10 – “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.”
Psalm 145:5 – “On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.”
Biblical mediation is very different from transcendental, new age, mindfulness, Budah, Chopra, yoga, and the like. Eastern meditation focuses on emptying the mind of thoughts & images in order to be enlightened through human or demonic power. Eastern meditation is a dangerous practice and is not in line with Scripture. Christian meditation will not detach you from your mind, thoughts, or imagination, rather, it connects you to the presence of God and the power of His Word, with a relational focal point on God – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All the benefits of Christian meditation come solely from and through Jesus Christ.

Is it God or is it just my imagination?

It’s your imagination connected to the mind and heart of God. God created you with an imagination so that you can dream, envision and contemplate your destiny in Him. Your imagination is the part of you where you conceive things. You cannot give birth to what you have not conceived. In other words, if you can’t see it with your imagination on the inside you won’t be able to do it on the outside.

Christian guided meditation creates an atmosphere that inspires you to glorify (value and prize) God in your imagination. If you glorify God, you will experience God. Meditation helps keep your mind on Him and His goodness. It promotes faith and expectation.

Genesis 6:5 – says, “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” People see negative things. So often, the imaginations and thoughts of the human heart are ungodly.

Christian meditation counteracts negative thinking by leading you to focus on the character, righteousness, and Word of God. When you contemplate on the glory and goodness of God, gratitude, joy, and expectation begin to rise up inside you. Negative thoughts and emotions are replaced with an expectancy of God’s faithfulness.

What should I focus on during a Christian guided meditation?

“Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things” – Philippians 4:8. I recommend that you don’t focus on health, troubles or lack. Just center your thoughts on Jesus, His attributes, and the work of His hand. “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these other things will be added to you.” – Mathew 6:33.

How do I approach meditation?

  • Be intentional about making an appointment to meet with God. Turn off the TV, phones and other distractions.
  • Quiet yourself before the Lord.
  • Be like a child in your approach to Him.
  • Invite Holy Spirit to minister to you.
  • Put aside your list of wants and needs and ask Him to reveal His heart to you.
  • Be hopeful and expectant.
  • Do as Samuel did in 1st Samuel 3:9. – “Lie down on the floor and say, “speak now Lord for your servant is listening.” Samuel was a boy when he heard the audible voice of God. God said Samuel’s name 3 times, and gave him his first prophetic word. Samuel received the benefits of soaking in the presence of God, and we can too.

How can I stop my mind from wandering while I meditate?

Christian guided meditations help to keep your mind from wandering. The purpose of envisioning the story, is to inspire your God-given imagination. God is altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to behold! If your mind starts to wander, bring it back and focus on Jesus. You can track the story if you want to, but you don’t have to. When Jesus makes himself known to you, take His hand and be with Him. He is the prize. The meditation story is just an open door into His presence. It’s a tool that creates an environment of rest so that you can easily experience God and find peace in Him.

What if I’m too busy to meditate?

Your are too busy not to meditate. Remember The story of Mary and Martha? Luke 10:40
Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to His message. She was hanging on his every word and taking it all in. But Martha was distracted with much serving…and Jesus said to her, – “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Meditating on God’s word is the one thing that is needed to awaken your spirit and produce rest for your soul. It is the “good part”. Meditation and soaking in God’s presence is important to God. Joshua 1:8 – Revelation and power is released when we hear the Word of God and meditate on it. Healing is often released. Perhaps the most amazing benefit of Christian Meditation is that it is faith-building. “We know that without faith it is impossible to please God.” –Hebrews 11:6. We also know that “with faith all things are possible!” – Mark 9:23

Is guided imagery a new-age thing?

It can be, depending on who is writing it. New age meditation is a counterfeit of what God intended for His children. New-age writers do not focus on the attributes and glory of God. They write about things like energy, light and self-power.

Jesus taught with parables (talk stories) there are 46 Parables in the New Testament. The Christian guided meditation “talk stories” that I write are inspired by the Holy Spirit and composed of both parables and visuals about the glory, majesty, and wonderful works of God.

We should be careful to examine everything before we meditate on it. Proverbs 4:23 – Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Always research writers, sources; who is their God, and what is inspiring them. I will only read, soak or meditate to material that is in line with Scripture and written by someone whose source is Jesus Christ. “Test every spirit to see whether they are from God.” – 1 john 4:1 Be watchful and discerning. The Holy Spirit is your helper, He will give you a check in your spirit if something is off. He will also quicken you when something is divine and of God.

Why am I afraid to try meditation?

If you are practicing Eastern meditation or any kind of meditation that is not focused on Jesus Christ, then you are opening the door to demonic influence. 2 Corinthians 11:14 – say’s, “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” Fear is a manifestation of the kingdom of darkness.

Satan will use fear to prevent you from pursuing the things that would draw you closer to God.
There is nothing to fear when meditating to Christian guided meditation, that is focused on Jesus Christ. If you are fearful of being misled by the enemy when you meditate, use the discernment that God gives His kids. If you have asked Jesus Christ to come and live in reign inside of you and be your God then you “have the mind of Christ”. – 1 Corinthians 2:16.  Jesus says, “my sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow me.” – John 10:27. “God will show you the way of life.” – Psalm 16:11

If you are struggling with fear, consider the album, “Soul Soaking; Sozo for the Soul.” This will help you identify the root of the fear and get free from it.
